This 2002 Ducati Monster S4 Fogarty is #186 of 300 built, 75 of which came to the US, as a tribute to four-time World Superbike Champion Carl “Foggy” Fogarty. Ridden 2,799 miles to date. Power is provided by the legendary 916cc L-twin paired with a six-speed transmission. The model features a tri-color Carl Fogarty livery with “Foggy Ducati” script on the fuel tanks, and other details include a carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust system, 17? Marchesini wheels, Brembo brakes, and a bi-color seat with anti-slip inserts.
The Monster S4 Fogarty features a red, white, and black livery by Aldo Drudi, with Foggy Ducati script and Fogarty’s signature eyes on the tank, and a tri-color motif and eyes on the front faring. The model was also equipped with a carbon fiber Termignoni exhaust system and a bi-color seat with anti-slip materials.
The Monster (called “il Mostro” in Italian) began as a styling exercise in 1992. The concept for the Monster was one Miguel Angel Galluzzi reportedly had been thinking about for some time, and it took time to convince the management at Cagiva and Ducati to build it. Ducati technical director Massimo Bordi originated the idea for what they wanted the new bike to accomplish, and assigned the design to Galluzzi, reportedly asking him for something which displayed a strong Ducati heritage, but which was easy to ride and not a sports bike. Ducati wanted the design to be simple so customers could customize them as they please. The popularity of the Monster saved Ducati from bankruptcy in the 1990s with over 300,000 produced since introduction in 1993.
