Powerful engine, DCT or manual transmissions to choose from, EPS on most models, great towing capacity. Most of the 2023 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4s come with DCT. The only outlier is the EPS model shown.

Verdict
The Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon is for just about any rider. Those looking for a fully automatic ride have three trims to choose from that are equipped with automatic DCT. If manual labor requires a manual transmission, there’s one option that fits the bill as well. Got a tough job? The powerful engine and large towing capacity on all models are ready.

Like the DCT EPS, the DCT version comes in either red or Black Forest Green.

Pricing and Which One to Buy
2023 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 DCT MSRP: $9,199

2023 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 EPS MSRP: $9,299–$9,799

2023 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 DCT EPS MSRP: $9,899

2023 Honda FourTrax Foreman Rubicon 4x4 DCT EPS Deluxe MSRP: $10,399

A lower price does not mean the FourTrax Foreman Rubicon is remiss of helpful features. Although it doesn’t have power steering, it does have the automatic DCT and is powered by the same 518cc engine, and has the same suspension, brakes, and towing capability. Like the DCT EPS version it comes in red and Black Forest Green.

Next up on the pricing ladder is the EPS model. This features electric power steering, but it is the only model in the range to sport a manual clutch and transmission. It comes in three colors: Honda Phantom Camo, red, and Matte Forged Bronze.

The DCT EPS is where the best of both worlds begin to collide. It has an automatic DCT transmission and electric power steering.

The Deluxe model trades the steel wheels of the other models for cast aluminum ones. Its suspension is color-matched to its painted bodywork. It comes in Honda Phantom Camo and exclusively sports the Matte Blue Metallic.

Powertrain: Engine, Transmission, and Performance
A 518cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine is used in all FourTrax Foreman Rubicons. Its focus is low to midrange power to complement its towing capability. The EPS model is the only one with a foot-shift manual five-speed transmission and manual clutch. DCT models will have the automatic dual clutch transmission with five gears, plus reverse and high and low with an automatic clutch. The trio of DCT models can shift between fully automatic and manual paddle shifting and also have a manual-override capability. High and low ranges on the DCT models allow the rider to choose the most fitting subtransmission for the terrain.

Honda also has its TraxLok 2WD, 4WD, and locking front differential system that is easy to shift with a switch. Riders can use the Speed Override mode to get out of deep mud because this setting allows faster wheel speed with front differential locked.

Handling: Steering, Suspension
All models, except the DCT-only trim, have electric power steering. EPS reduces kickback through the handlebar and also greatly reduces fatigue by making the 700-plus-pound ATVs easier to steer.

Double wishbone front suspension and independent rear suspension help keep the wheels of all Rubicons on the ground. Travel is 7.3 and 8.5 inches respectively and preload is adjustable at both ends. A double-cradle steel frame balances stiffness and rigidity, and the low-slung, longitudinally mounted engine keeps mass low and centralized for great handling. Honda says the rubber-mounted engine and exhaust provides great chassis feel in addition to reducing vibration.

The DCT EPS trim includes both a fully automatic transmission and electric power steering to make the ride easy to manage.

Brakes
Hydraulic calipers grab onto a pair of 190mm discs up front and a pair of 170mm discs out back. Riders use two hand levers or a brake pedal to modulate stopping power. An easy-to-set parking brake is located on the left grip.

Ergonomics: Comfort and Utility
The seat is contoured and nicely padded for a comfortable ride. The engine is longitudinally mounted to give the ATV a slim layout. Handlebar-mounted shifting and drive mode controls are within easy reach to the rider.

There’s a 1.9-liter weatherproof utility box at the front in addition to a storage compartment located on the left front fender. A small storage compartment for a tool kit is located near the back bumper.

Payload/Towing
Front and rear payload capacities are 99 and 187 pounds respectively, so plenty of equipment can be taken with you and lashed to the front or rear racks. A trailer hitch is prepared to carry loads up to 1,322 pounds, a capacity that is on par with the competition.

Electronics
Honda’s electronics package includes an LCD display that provides various information such as fuel level, gear position, speed, and other useful indicators. This display also has a service reminder function. There is an accessory socket to keep devices and other gear charged and an electric starter to make start-ups easy.

Three halogen headlights serve the front. We particularly appreciate the handlebar-mounted pod light which helps illuminate the direction of travel. The brake/tail light is LED.

The DCT EPS Deluxe stands out as the top trim by sporting the vibrant Matte Blue Metallic. It also comes in Honda Phantom Camo. Regardless of color option, purchasers will have the contrast-cut cast aluminum wheels.

Ease of Maintenance
Checking or adding engine oil is done by removing a little door in order to access the dipstick and filler. The drain bolt is in a typical location under the ATV and is easily accessible through a hole in the underbelly covering. The oil filter is accessed by removing the seat and tank cover assembly and removing the oil filter cover. For air filter maintenance, this part is located under the seat.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Honda backs up its Rubicon 4x4s with a 12-month, limited factory warranty. Extensions are possible with a Honda Protection Plan.
