5 Things Every Motorcyclist Should Know About The Honda Grom

Mar. 2 2023 Lifestyle By Bryan Muchai

Small displacement bikes prove that you don't need excessive cubes to have lots of fun. While most under half-liter motorcycles are geared towards beginners, seasoned riders can also enjoy taking them to the track, carving canyons at high speeds, or commuting the urban roads on these bikes. For instance, the four-cylinder Ninja ZX-25R that Kawasaki introduced to spice up the presumably dull beginner bike market, and many experienced riders will enjoy it on track. In terms of fun factor, tiny cc bikes deliver in spades, regardless of your skill level.

Honda has a rich lineup of tiny-displacement bikes and is arguably the best in this segment. There is a little Honda to meet almost all rider needs, from the classic and diminutive Monkey minibikes to the current options like the Honda Navi, Trail 125, CRF 125F, and Super Cub C125. But in popularity, few can measure up to the Honda Grom. If you admire superbikes, the Honda Grom might not catch your eye, which is a shame because the tiny Honda offers plenty in a small, affordable package. Here are ten things every aspiring motorcyclist should know about the Honda Grom.

1. Cheap Pricing
If you are a beginner rider in the market for a bargain bike that doesn't sacrifice the fun factor, then the
Honda Grom might just be the bike for you. It starts at $3,499 for the standard trim and $300 extra for the ABS version, making it one of the cheapest new motorcycles.

2. Notably High Fuel Economy

Fuel economy plays a significant role in a vehicle's appeal, with rising fuel prices and high regard for protecting the environment. That's why motorcycle riders are fast embracing the new electric motorcycles hitting the market. But a few gas-powered motorcycles like the Honda Grom have considerably high fuel economy.

Honda Grom's fuel economy of 134mpg is as high as you will get from any motorcycle on the market and is part of the appeal that makes the bike so successful. With a 1.5-gallon tank, you can expect to push close to 200-miles with every refill.

3. Reliable And Easy To Maintain

The Grom comes with Honda's undisputed reliability, and it never seems to break. With the updated 125cc motor, the Grom will last longer than other bikes in the entry-level class. Since it has low revs, the engine undergoes less wear and tear than other high revving machines.

Like most air-cooled and fuel-injected motorcycles, the Grom is also easy to maintain. Although it has a shorter valve clearance interval than other bikes, the task is easy to undertake. Also, it comes with a healthy room for customization and healthy aftermarket support.

4. Perfect City Motorcycle

The Honda Grom makes for a perfect city commuting motorcycle. It is super compact, lightweight, economical, has a good riding position, and is just so much fun to ride. The Grom weighs just 225 pounds, and the seat height is quite low at just 30.1 inches.

You will have no trouble throwing the little commuter around and squeezing in between traffic. While it has a limited top speed, most city streets' speed limits range between 10 and 25 miles per hour, only rising to 35mph in a few cases. As long as you stay away from the A roads, you'll feel at home with the Honda Grom.

5. A Hooligan That Doesn’t Attract Attention

Seasoned super hooligans like the Triumph Speed Triple or the Ducati Streetfighter V4 are bound to attract attention every time you step out. Attempt burnouts or pull wheelies on the city streets with your loud, powerful bike, and high chances cops will be on your case. But the Honda Grom is a different type of hooligan.

Many will think you look ridiculous on the bike due to its proportions, and they may ask if you are riding a kid's bike. But that won't get much in your way because the Grom looks harmless with its diminutive proportions and precious aesthetics. You can pull the wildest stunt on the street with the Grom, and most people won't even notice.
